Guest/Rider Photo Albums on NABX.net

To the pleasure of all those stuck at home in April, NABX has a long standing tradition of posting event photos to our website. Now we'd like to include our guests and invite anyone who attends the event to create their own albums and post photos of the NABX.

Upload your photos!

Those who have registered since 2007 may login to the members site, click the "Create photo albums" link and upload up to 10 images at once. You may create as many albums and fill them with as many photos as you like. Start an album for each year you attend.

We will continue to link to external web albums, but we encourage everyone to help us build the NABX gallery.

We hope you enjoy the new addition to our site.

Best ride ever!

Man I tell ya what! If you ever do anything you got to go to Nabx! This is the greatest thing imo that you could ever do. I had so much fun with all the flat wind and room that is on the Playa. You could just go as far as you wanted even with over a hundred people there you could still find all the room needed to be alone or do fast runs. Lots of great people to meet lots of kites, buggys to see. I even hit 39mph in my rockville with a 3m my first time there. I can't wait til 2009! 50mph baby. I also loved the shirt, hat, bottle opener,That I got on top of the good food and new friends I got to meet. All in all great time. Don't miss it if I could make it so can you! See ya next year. Be safe and ride on!

Pre-Event 2008

Arriving late at Elmers on thursday, Blake Pelton is ripping across the lake with his twin skin, wind is blowing around 16-18, pure smooth El Mirage butter.

I jump in my buggy, take his kite and get a few runs in before the sun finally sets. Not many people in buggy town yet, but the weather is beautiful, and we're tired, so after setting up the tents, cooking some dogs, we're all out pretty quick.

Friday more people arrive including the Lama himself, Darrin Skinner, Morrie and Kelcie Williams, Spencer and his daughter Emma cutting it up. Chris Shultz comes in a little later bringing us a bag of burgers and we're off to Superior.

Did i mention, the wind was so gusty, the few times i went out, we didn't know whether to pump the kite to keep it from falling out of the sky, or hold on for dear life as we rode gusts across the lake bed. Then it built! By the time we left on friday, it was blowing plus 30!

Ivanpah at its best video

Ivanpah at its best video

I'd like to share some fond memories that I look forward to every year. 2008's event should be bigger than ever.

Here's an idea of what the playa has to offer from the middle of camp and all the way back to the hotel parking lot. Notice the security vans I pass when leaving the Playa.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vwhqOGOzIOE

I recommend not trying this because BLM has issued a permit so long as we are safe and aware of how to protect the open space Ivanpah has to enjoy. As more people attend, there's always a jerk like me who does something silly.

Please respect the playa regarding garbage, driving through camp, and most of all safety. Be sure to enjoy yourself and bring a camera to share your antics too.

Happy New Year 2008!

Welcome to NABX 2008!

We have a brand new web site, thanks to our benefactor Bob Childs who has worked tirelessly after taking over for Bob Hogan to help us all out through this great medium. Like Bob Hogan, BC is very involved in kite traction and keeps abreast of what's what and who is who.

While the web site is new, what isn't new is our continued commitment to Kite Traction of all sorts with an emphasis on fun, friends and family. Year after year we get together to share our love of kites and look to new and interesting ways of getting the word out about our sport. You can help us by using the new web site, submitting articles or bringing new people, trends, or news to our attention.

This year we will be brining even more international guests to the event with an increased sponsorship program. To help with this monumental job we've enlisted the aid of Slawek Krauze a San Francisco Bay Area freestyler who is very active on the circuit.
Racing Rules

NABX Racing Rules

These rules are designed to be simple and enforceable. They have evolved to reduce manipulative games based on rules rather than ability. We are a spectator sport and our rules are designed to enable open and fair racing, where the winner is the winner, not decided in a protest room. It is our desire to avoid the complicated right of way rules which plague yachting.

1. A race judge will be appointed before the start of the meeting whose
judgment is agreed to be impartial and non-partisan and that judge has the
power to black flag competitors out for blatant obstruction, unsafe
behavior or buggy "hunting", incompetence to the point where it is
generally preventing the fair conduct of the race and team racing. (Team
racing is defined as a buggier fouling out another competitor to advantage
some associated competitor).

2. For multi-buggy races we do not outlaw obstructing in general with
exception of deliberate or blatant...Read more

Kite Buggy in Jordan

Kite Buggy in Jordan

We started four years ago in Jordan after we got impressed with a kite festival that was organized in Aqaba on the Red Sea. The event featured international kiters and had the usual mix of huge single lines, the royal squadron formation flyers, and Traction kites with boards and buggies.

We got hooked on traction kites and started buying kites and learning. We are all self taught on the kites and buggies but we are doing quite well and loving it.

Jordan has a very impressive desert backyard with very good wind statistics. We ride mostly on weekends close to the capital, Amman for convenience. Not too far off, an hours drive we have a number of mudflats and dry lake beds. Another area, AlJafr dry lake, 250Km from Amman is where they tried to break the land speed sound barrier.

Interest is building in our kiting activity but we are still quite far from putting a show.
