UK Buggy Report

Date: Feb 18th/19th 2005.
Location: Hoylake Beach, Wirral, Nr Liverpool
Race HQ: Wirral Sandyacht Club
Organiser: Graham Steel - British Supercup series

Race Plan: Saturday - 2 x 30 min races for British Parakart Cup
Sunday - 2Hr Supercup series

Saturday - A 5 mark course over 2.7 miles. 44 racers entered, with wind
speeds fluctuating between 20 - 26mph.
Top racers kite choice 3.5 - 4.0m.

Race No:1 Fast and furious as the wind gusted during the race. Some softer
sand spots made tyre choice Big Foots / Lights as standard, and some of the
terrain around the marks was cut-up.

Race No:2 Wind had dropped slightly, making kite choice a bit of a gamble.
Top racers opted for 4.0 - 4.5m and as the wind dropped further during the
race, this proved the winning choice.

Sunday - 64 racers entered ( Max safe No ) for a 5 Mark challenging course
over 4.3 miles. Winds 20 -22mph. Top racers kite choice 4.0 - 4.5m.

A good start with the 1st lap spreading out the field. The final straight
allowed for speeds in excess of 40mph, but with the
Start / Finish line placed at right angles to the last Mark, to slow us down
for the scorers, this meant that the racers had to scrub all their speed in
the last 30 yds to the mark so as not to overshoot the gate! This provided
interesting viewing as racers shot off in all directions on the 1st lap
taken by surprise as to the severity of the angle!
During the 2nd lap the wind dropped slightly, but enough to cause a scramble
to the pits to change kites to 5.0 - 6.0m to stay competitive.
Some of the course was getting cut-up and being bounced out of your buggy
became a real possibility as the wind decided to pick up again.
I was hanging on and counteracting overpower slide whilst trying to keep up
the speed to get as many laps in before the 2Hrs elapsed.
