New World Record March 30, 2010
At 07:20 the 30th day of March 2010, Fast Arie shattered his old record of 77.05 mph (set on April 3, 2009)with a top speed of 82.9 mph at the North American Buggy eXpo, Ivanpah Dry Lake, California!
Flying a Peter Lynn 2.7 Vapor in very high wind while riding an Xxtreme Apexx buggy with Haan wheels!
As the NABX Team was doing damage control to the main event tent Arjen van der Tol, a Dutch rider made his high speed run across the lake bed. Winds were out of the south southwest and fast Arie made his way right in front of buggy town.
Witness knew it was a record run right away and this was confirmed when we saw Arie jumping up and down.
Using four(4) GPS units for accuracy and redundancy, the North American Buggy eXpo recognizes Mr. van der Tol's amazing triumph officially. The GPS units were zero'd before the run, and a continuous video was made, finishing with Mr. van der Tol's exit from the buggy in the bushes on the lake shore. The lowest common average was taken from the four(4)units to establish the new record.
NABX is working with other organizations to establish standards for this sort of record as the speeds continue to increase and more teams become interested in breaking the current record.
