NABX Articles

Welcome to NABX 2008!

We have a brand new web site, thanks to our benefactor Bob Childs who has worked tirelessly after taking over for Bob Hogan to help us all out through this great medium. Like Bob Hogan, BC is very involved in kite traction and keeps abreast of what's what and who is who.

While the web site is new, what isn't new is our continued commitment to Kite Traction of all sorts with an emphasis on fun, friends and family. Year after year we get together to share our love of kites and look to new and interesting ways of getting the word out about our sport. You can help us by using the new web site, submitting articles or bringing new people, trends, or news to our attention.

This year we will be brining even more international guests to the event with an increased sponsorship program. To help with this monumental job we've enlisted the aid of Slawek Krauze a San Francisco Bay Area freestyler who is very active on the circuit. Slawek (pronounced Swavek) rides his buggy or sno-board every chance he gets and is also working on making new kite traction videos.

Look for a very exciting line up of International guests on these pages soon!

Also of note, NABX will now be a Leave NO Trace event! Pack it in, Pack it out. We will no longer be providing a dumpster on the playa. In response to BLM complaints and the many problems associated with the use of a commercial dumpster we are leaving it up to our members to take out that which you bring in. Please ask us how you can help.

NABX now has a sound system. We hope that as we go along, we can add to this more speakers and thus be able to get the word out to everyone what we are up to at any given moment. With everyone spread out the way we are, we are looking for more creative ways of communicating with each other to announce events and racing. While we will continue to use scheduling to help organize, we all know we can not schedule the wind.

If you haven't heard by now, you will soon, there are plans on putting a solar power generating station on the west side of Ivanpah Dry lake. Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System information can be found at: http://www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/ivanpah/
as we learn more, we will report more. We're not sure how this will impact the future of the lake, but you can bet it will in spite of the quaint reassurance and lip service we may get from our government.

Finally, the Enduro is back! We will do our best to have the 50 mile Enduro race back on thursday of the event, wind and conditions willing!
