When is the North American Buggy eXpo?

NABX Pre Event - El Mirage Dry Lake, CA - March 26 to March 29, 2010

Each year a pre-event is planned on El Mirage Dry Lake in the days leading up to the main event. El Mirage offers some great off-road buggy opportunities including mountain trails, MX bump 'n' jumps and flat, wide areas of the open lake. Many NABX attendees start the week at El Mirage.

We will once again gather on El Mirage Dry Lake, now a pay to play National Park. El Mirage, where many of us got our first taste of desert buggying cost $15 for a day or $30 for a week. This is a per vehicle cost and well worth it considering how it's cleaned up the lake and kept a lot of the yahoos out that have plagued us in the past.

NABX Main Event - Ivanpah Dry Lake, CA - March 30 to April 04, 2010

Be sure to register online before the event to avoid late fees and make your hotel reservations early. Camping on the lake bed is also permitted.

Where is the North American Buggy eXpo?

Located 45 minutes south of Las Vegas on US I-15 at the CA- NV border, the North American Buggy eXpo is actually held in two states. 35 Sq. mile Ivanpah Dry Lake is located just over the border from Primm, NV in sunny California. Roach Dry Lake (alternative site) is located in Primm as are the Primadonna Casino Resorts where most of the pilots stay.

Ivanpah is the largest dry lake in the region and is the central location for this event. It is part of a federal preserve and its use is restricted to wind powered vehicles.

Access onto Ivanpah Dry Lake is from the south-eastern corner of the
resort/casino/outlet-mall property at Primm. A perimeter road circles the
entire complex and a mini-mart/lotto store is on the southeastern side, just
east of the freeway. The access road onto the lake bed is about 200 yds.
past the mini-mart in the southeastern corner. Just before the sewage
treatment plant.

A mis-guided attempt by the BLM to control traffic in the late 90's resulted
in a set of ruts along the eastern side of the lake bed. They hold water
long after the lake bed is dry and restrict access. Do Not Drive In The
Ruts.

Carsonite poles have been set about 150 ft. apart along the eastern shore to
allow a wider avenue for access. All motorized vehicles must stay between
the marked poles. Speed is limited to 30 mph max in a motorized vehicle. You
want to go faster, you must be wind-powered.

Permits for motorized vehicle access are required for individual
recreational use. Event permits cover all the attendees at the event.
Individual permits are NOT required for events.

The western side of Ivanpah Dry Lake is unrestricted and may be accessed
from the parking lot behind Whiskey Pete's.

No vehicle access is allowed if the lake bed is damp or muddy.

Many airlines fly into Las Vegas including Delta and America West.

Arriving in Las Vegas, attendees often choose to rent a pickup truck, mini-van or sport utility vehicle as the preferred form of transportation and storage for heavy gear.

Please note that you will be driving about 3 to 4 miles out onto the lake bed. Make sure the vehicle you rent is capable of traversing this type of surface.
